==Discussion==
a low pressure system tracking through Montana brought snow and
freezing rain to southern Saskatchewan Thursday afternoon. Several
hours of freezing rain in the Swift Current and Shaunavon regions
produced slippery conditions. By early evening, the freezing rain
had moved out of the province.
By mid evening, 12 to 15 cm of snow had accumulated at assiniboia,
with up to 5 cm more expected there by morning. Snow and some
blowing snow moved into Regina and Estevan during the late
afternoon, and as of midnight 4 cm and 8 cm had accumulated
respectively.
The Shaunavon region received considerably less snow than areas
further north and east, however very strong northwest winds as high
as 70 gusting 100 km/h developed during the evening, which
accompanied by some snow on the back side of the system gave
blizzard conditions with near zero visibilities.
At 12:30 am, radar showed snow falling from saskatoon southeastward
through Elbow, Moose jaw, assiniboia, Regina, and Estevan.
Conditions will improve by morning as the system continues to move
off to the southeast. The snow will begin to taper off by morning,
and the strong winds and blizzard conditions in the southwest will
also start to diminish.
Snowfall totals near 10 cm are expected at Regina, and up to 20 cm at
assiniboia. The amount of snow diminishes fairly quickly as you go
north and east from Regina, with little or no accumulation expected
at Wynyard or Moosomin.
